Les Brown; A Black American Who Was Declared Mentally Retarded
Les Brown is an American motivational speaker, author,
radioDJ, and a former television host for The Les Brown show which was aired by
King World Production.
His life story shows that it’s possible to live your life by
your own terms no matter what the situation is.
How an adopted kid was raised in hard times? How a mentally
retarded kid did so well? How was his attitude towards rejection? What was the
inspiration of becoming a motivational speaker? And so on.
Les Brown with his twin brother Wesley was born to a single
mother in liberty city. His mother gave Les with his brother for adoption to a
woman named Memie Brown who worked as a waiter in a cafeteria and as a domestic
assistant. Les Brown with his twin brother was raised in poverty and in a low
income area of the city.
At his school years, he was declared as a mentally retarded
person who was demoted for several times at school and was broke as hell. One
day at school, a teacher asked him some questions and in answer to the teacher
he said that he can’t answer the questions because he was mentally retarded;
moreover, the teacher stated that: Don’t ever let others opinion of you
becomes your reality, this statement changed his life and got him on track.
Les Brown started his career as a radio DJ and he was having
hard time being selected as he narrated the story in one of his talks that he
went every day for a job in a radio station but got rejected and he did not
stop going upto the time he got selected as an assistant and driver. He went
live on radio for the first time when a DJ was absent and there was no one else
than him to go live on radio except him and he hosted awesomely; more
importantly, he states that: You GOTTA Be Hungry to get unstoppable.
Les Brown decided to give motivational talks to contribute
to the world and share his stories and hard times with an aim to work as a
guide for other strivers and persons who are having hard times and are about to
give up.
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will land on
the stars. “Les
Brown”
