Nobel Prize; World's Most Prestigious Award
Nobel Prize is an international award from Swedish and
Norwegian institutions awarded in recognition of academic, cultural or scientific
contribution and advances to one person or an organization.
Alfred Bernhard Nobel was a Swedish scientist, engineer,
chemist, inventor, businessman and philanthropist and he founded the Nobel
Prize Foundation to appreciate the individuals or organizations for their
contributions for making this world a better place for living.
Nobel Prize ceremony for academic, cultural and
scientific contributions annually takes place in Stockholm, Sweden except Nobel
Prize ceremony for Peace which takes place in Oslo, Norway. Every Nobel
Prize laureate receives a medal (made from 24 carat gold), diploma and
an amount of money which is decided by Nobel Prize Foundation;
interestingly, Nobel Prize is known as the most prestigious award in the world
and the expense for each Nobel Prize Laureate is considered $ 920,000 USD.
Every September, 300 persons are nominated for Nobel
Prize by Nobel committee and they ask for votes and suggestions from the
experts of the filed regarding their contribution and all the process is secret
and by January of the award year they finalize the 6 Nobel Prize laureate of
the year and inform them to prepare for Nobel lecture in their field.
The first Nobel Prize was awarded in 1901 and by 2016
it was awarded 579 times; interestingly, 2 Nobel Laureates Jean-Paul
Sartre and Boris Pasternak were supposed to be given the Nobel Prize
for literature but they refused the award.
It is my express wish that in awarding the prizes no
consideration be given to the nationality of the candidates, but the most worthy
shall receive the award. “Alfred Bernhard Nobel”
